A one story L-shaped 1960’s house needed a second-story addition and useable outdoor spaces on its narrow hillside lot. The family desired a discreet make-over to reflect and accommodate their creative, yet informal lifestyle, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor. The first floor is an open plan, flanking a new lap pool, accessible via sliding glass doors. The new second floor master suite stacks the existing structure, with an outdoor living room above. All southwest-facing spaces are shaded by a horizontal trellis-eyebrow casting rectilinear shadows on the smooth stucco. The interiors are an authentic expression of the client’s love of art, color and modern/eclectic simplicity
